In addition to visual upgrades, KDE Plasma 6.4 brings many enhancements and bug fixes that improve stability and user experience. The new time-of-day wallpapers change dynamically, creating a more immersive desktop environment. Spectacle, the screenshot utility, features a redesigned interface that is more intuitive and powerful.

This release adds support for per-virtual-desktop tile layouts, updates to the KWin-X11 window manager, and integration with the Aurorae theme engine. It also includes a revamped KDE Menu Editor, persistent notifications, and better KRunner search results. Discover, the software center, now lets users start updates directly from notifications.

On the system side, KDE Plasma new version introduces an HDR calibration wizard, a “Background Services” section in System Monitor, and improved drag-and-drop behavior. The update also fixes KWin crashes, improves screen selection in XWayland, and resolves a lock screen security issue. Additionally, KDE Plasma 6.3.6 disables Adaptive-Sync by default due to ongoing driver problems.

The final release of KDE Plasma 6.4 will arrive on June 17th, 2025. Beta versions are already available through KDE neon and openSUSE Tumbleweed. Users can try them now and share feedback, but should avoid using beta builds in production environments.
